1. There once was a secret apartment hidden in a forgotten alcove of a Rhode Island mall’s garage. Built by eight friends, the apartment was occupied without anyone knowing for four years in the late ‘90s. Now there is a documentary about it!
2. I spent one Friday night a few weeks ago scrolling endlessly through World Wide Aura, a blog that identifies beauty products and perfumes in movies and shows. It’s done intoxicatingly! The most recent post is from a 1990 movie called Basket Case 2, which has this synopsis: “Duane and his basket-bound mutant brother are taken in by a secret home for wayward freaks with journalists hot on their tail.”
3. I’m on the lookout for anyone who’s familiar with and has thoughts/memories about the girlblog beauty Paris cigarettes messy hair liner-rimmed eyes Tumblr era of 2013 who can tell me more about these fan fic NARS eyeshadows:
Honestly, I’m not sure what I will do with those thoughts yet, but I’ve been very into eyeshadow palettes lately and came across these on Pinterest. Someone on Reddit wrote: “layouts of NARS eyeshadow and blush singles use to be really big on aesthetic/hipster tumblr glad to see some people have taken artistic liberties with it”
4. I did not know that the art on the set of Melrose Place was part of a subversive art experiment! Learn more about it in this episode of Decoder Ring from last October.
5. The Local Woman…this week, she:
“seizes the day” by opening Cafe Diem in Pearl River, New York
is working for your local utility company in Bridgeport, West Virginia
is 109 and attending the State of the Union address from Battleboro, North Carolina
is hiking the Appalachian Trail starting this weekend from Antioch, Georgia
