Dollar Store Vernacular & Some Romance Too
Hello! You've reached 1-900-Very-Famous, thank goodness...
Good afternoon, girls next door!
Let’s see what we have today…
Love,

💚 The Very Famous Five 💚
1. Dollar Store Vernacular — The folks at Consumer Aesthetics Research Institute constantly come through with the archival sublime (a term Very Famous friend Rachel told me about that has stuck with me ever since). This week I am LUVING their Dollar Store Vernacular channel, described as a “perennial ecosystem of ‘cheap’ or ‘outsider’ design.”
It’s the sort of splashy, industrial-carnival product design that, personally, makes my eyes light up. When you’re in Walmart around 11 at night and you spot a Yorkie keychain on your way to buy some stuff for breakfast at the beach condo in the morning, that’s dollar store vernacular. Or buying ICEE pops!
2. OK, I’m on a Dollar Store kick now…
3. On a different but perhaps similar note…in the mood for a body shimmer:
(This one’s from Pinksamcosmetics on Etsy.)
& a Club Top charm…
4. It’s the 2nd Annual 🎄🐬 Very Famous Spring Break Christmas 🐬🎄 a gift guide hosted by Tyrese and Molly Sims. This is, to be honest with you, an anytime gift guide because who knows with the shipping situation! Some of the best gifts are given on February 1 anyhow...
Did you see that New York Times article where the PR person for an old-school New York hotel bar told this story about a group of girls who asked her “what is that?” about the martini she was drinking? That’s the energy we’re bringing to this gift guide, to the New Year, we’re the group of girls, we see a clear liquid, two olives, what is that, it looks good…
5. A departure from the last atmosphere, but romantic coats with unruly cuffs and big messy hair pinned up sounds nice…(From Chantal Thomass 1992 Spring/Summer)
