Dear Asphalt Workers,
Today’s the day!

🧡 The Very Famous Five 🧡
1. We here at Very Famous Inc. have been quietly marinating on this trend prediction for some time now — waffling in the “did they ever leave?” category — but it is official in digital print that “‘uncool’ chains are gearing up for a comeback” !! Amy McCarthy’s piece for Eater shows that sales for fast-casual chains like Olive Garden have been steadily growing. McCarthy attributes this generally to a) affordability b) consistency and c) coziness/nostalgia.
I was surprised to learn that Texas Roadhouse is the fastest-growing restaurant brand in the world?! I was just as surprised to learn that the Melting Pot is “mounting a comeback” and looking for new franchise operators (anyone?)
2. ⭐⭐⭐
3. Today, I am loving the press photos for a very forgotten year 2000 film Dancing at the Blue Iguana, which Very Famous Friend Steve came across last night, and which a video shop out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee described as a “poor man’s Showgirls”.
Starring Daryl Hannah, Sandra Oh, and Jennifer Tilly, and the movie is about The Blue Iguana, a strip club in the San Fernando Valley, “a club where the glamour is tinged with decay, a crossroads where lives intersect and personas are donned and shed with equal abandon.”
I am intrigued by the photos surrounding this premiere…
Daryl Hannah leaning into fellow actress Sheila Kelly, who looks like she’s just heard a government secret.
Jennifer Tilly browsing at Barney’s “in town to promote her two new films, ‘Monsters, Inc.’ and ‘Dancing At The Blue Iguana’.”
Sandra Oh looking stunning!
4. Sometimes I’m timely!
5. The first Friday in November, the Local Woman is…
☆ Winning $786,000 on a royal flush at the Gila River Resorts & Casinos in Queen Creek, Arizona
☆ Reflecting on her summer spent going to Metallica shows across America from Detroit, Michigan
☆ Winning awards for her 740-pound pumpkin “Peach” on display at Dollywood from Ronceverte, West Virginia
☆ Starting traditions, leaving memories as she turns 95 in Moose Lake, Minnesota.
“One of my favorite memories of Tootie was when she traveled alone to Ohio and she sewed a fake companion to sit with her in the passenger side, more like a big doll.”
☆ Opening a grocery store serving fresh produce year-round in Whitman, Massachusetts
